To try: this Danish apple dessert recipe.
In a saucepan, cook the apples over low heat with a little water until they soften.
Add the sugar and lemon juice gradually. When the taste is to your liking, set the mixture aside.
Using a blender, reduce the bread and sugar to a coarse crumb.
Melt the butter in a pan over medium-high heat. When the butter starts to bubble, add the breadcrumbs and cook until the mixture is golden and caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.
Place a thin layer of breadcrumbs at the bottom of two large glasses, then cover with a tablespoon of apples. Repeat this process until you have several layers, finishing with the breadcrumbs, then top with whipped cream. You may optionally add a few drops of whiskey or rum to each layer of breadcrumbs.
To finish, top with a small spoonful of jam on the cream.
