Apple Pie Recipe for Valentine’s Day or Any Day

AuthorCategoryDifficultyBeginner

If you're not too into chocolate, I suggest an apple tart for Valentine's Day (or not).

Yields8 Servings
Prep Time50 minsCook Time1 minTotal Time51 mins
Shortcrust pastry
 480 Flour
 120 Sugar
 1 pinch Salt
 1 Baking powder
 250 Butter
 1 vanilla extract
 2 Eggs
 12 cold water if needed
Garnish
 1 apples
 50 Butter
 100 Sugar
 1 Cinnamon
 1 vanilla extract
Directions
1

Start with the dough. In the bowl of a food processor, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Mix for a few seconds to combine everything well. Add the butter cut into pieces and mix again to achieve a crumbly texture. Add the vanilla extract and the eggs, and mix until a ball of dough forms. If necessary, gradually add 1 or 2 tablespoons of cold water (I needed 2 tablespoons of water).

2

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for 1 hour. This will make it easier to roll out.

3

Meanwhile, prepare the filling. Peel the apples, core them, and cut them into small pieces. Place them in a large skillet with the butter and sugar and simmer for 25-30 minutes over low heat, stirring occasionally. Add the cinnamon and vanilla extract, mix well, and let cool.

4

Preheat the oven to 170°C, fan mode.

5

Take the dough out of the fridge and divide it into 2.

6

Roll out half of the dough quite thinly (2-3 mm thick) and line the tart pan. Use the rolling pin to lift it by rolling the dough onto it. Trim the excess edges.

7

Evenly distribute the filling over the tart crust.

8

Roll out the remaining dough thinly (half was enough for me) and cut out small hearts using a cookie cutter. Place them on the filling.

9

Bake for 30 minutes or until the pastry is golden.

10

Finally, let it cool, then unmold onto the serving dish and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
