Mtewem, a traditional Algerian dish, is prepared with meat cut into pieces, meatballs, and chickpeas. It is served with a red sauce or a white sauce. In this recipe, it's red sauce! This is generally the dish prepared on the first day of Ramadan.

 500 Beef
 300 Ground beef
 1 Onion
 2 cloves Garlic
 200 Cooked chickpeas
 5 Tomato paste
 1 Paprika
 2 Cumin
 1 Cinnamon
 Olive oil
 Salt
 Pepper
 1 Egg

Sauté the pieces of meat with the peeled and finely chopped garlic and onion, along with some oil.

Add the chickpeas, tomato paste, paprika, cinnamon, and half of the cumin. Season with salt and pepper. Cover with water. Simmer for 30 minutes.

Prepare the meatballs by mixing the ground beef with salt, pepper, the other half of the cumin, and the egg. Sauté the meatballs in oil.

Finally, add the meatballs to the other ingredients in the last 10 minutes of cooking.
