In addition to being essential for hot chocolate, almond milk is a staple ingredient in many other recipes. So why not learn to make it yourself? Here’s how to make your almond milk in under 5 minutes!
Soak the almonds in water for 8 to 12 hours. My tip is to put them in water before going to bed so they can soak overnight.
Drain the soaking water and rinse the almonds. You can also keep the water to water your plants.
Place the almonds in the blender bowl with 1 liter of water and blend for 1 to 2 minutes. You will obtain a white liquid. There will be small pieces of almond remaining, which is normal.
Strain the liquid using a cheesecloth or a nut milk bag. If you don't have either, a clean kitchen towel can work in a pinch, but in the long run, the cheesecloth is much more practical. Don't hesitate to squeeze with your hands to extract as much liquid as possible.
Pour the milk into a bottle and store it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Use glass bottles preferably. Besides being more environmentally friendly than plastic ones, they are much more attractive, let's admit it.
Finally, do not throw away the leftover almonds. This pulp is called almond okara and it will be perfect for making a cake, cookies, or a delicious granola.
