Recipe for Yellow Patty Pan Squash Gratin

AuthorCategoryDifficultyBeginner

My intention was to use this beautiful squash to create an original dish. Gradually, I ended up with a delicious casserole. It just goes to show that some ingredients sometimes lead to others in the heart of winter. Despite this intense and unnecessary thought process to prepare my recipe, it was very good, creamy, and comforting (like a casserole, really…).

Prep Time30 minsCook Time35 minsTotal Time1 hr 5 mins
Ingredients
 1 Pattypan squash
 15 Potato
 10 White wine
 Salt
 Pepper
 3 cloves Garlic
 250 Smoked bacon bits
 40 Light cream
 Nutmeg
 100 Parmesan
 250 Munster cheese
Directions
1

Clean the potatoes, cut them into cubes, and cook them for 20 minutes in a large pot of boiling salted water.

2

Clean the squash, cut it into cubes, and add it for the last 10 minutes of cooking the potatoes. I like it crunchy; otherwise, cook it longer.

3

Meanwhile, sauté the diced bacon with the minced garlic. Once cooked and browned, deglaze with wine. Let the pan sit aside for a few minutes.

4

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees on the grill setting.

5

Arrange the potatoes and the vegetable in a large baking dish.

6

Heat the bacon and add the cream, two-thirds of the parmesan, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Heat for one minute to combine everything well and pour into a baking dish.

7

Top with the remaining parmesan and the sliced cheese.

8

To finish, bake for about 15 minutes until it is nicely browned. Serve with a small salad.
