My favorite dish when I was a child and even now.

Yields4 Servings
Prep Time15 minsCook Time10 minsTotal Time25 mins
Ingredients
 125 Round rice
 1 Milk
 40 Sugar
 1 clove Vanilla
Directions
1

Cut your vanilla pod in half lengthwise, immerse it in a saucepan with the milk. Heat the milk.

2

Rinse the rice with water and add it to the pot when the milk begins to boil.

3

Cover the pot and let it cook on very low heat for 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 30. One tip: do not stir the rice during cooking.

4

10 minutes before the end of cooking, add the sugar to the pot and stir. When you remove the lid to add the sugar, you will see that the rice has "expanded." This is normal.

5

To finish, at the end of cooking, remove the vanilla pod. Pour the rice into a bowl and let it cool to room temperature. Serve at room temperature.

Have you tried using a bay leaf instead of vanilla bean (that's what my mother-in-law used to do)? The flavor is very, very pleasant.

Trying it means adopting it. I’m very happy to have discovered this very simple recipe, which is more practical than the one from my childhood when I had to watch and stir the rice pudding for ages!

Brilliant recipe. No need to watch and stir for 1 hour, then only for 10 minutes with sugar while mixing. Perfect proportions. Not too sweet. Just right. Simply delicious.

I put 150 grams of round rice and 100 grams of sugar, and the cooking time was only half an hour. But it probably depends on the thickness of the bottoms of the pots. Good recipe.

It was a great success. Maybe not enough sugar, but as we do, we eat rice pudding with custard, it was perfect. It cooked for 1 hour at our place.
